Our strategy earned us victory against Korea, says Dedevbo

Nigeria U20 Women national team coach has revealed that his tactical approach earned his girls victory over the Asians champions in Moncton on Saturday
Falconets head coach Peter Dedevbo has revealed that his strategy made the difference when Nigeria played Korea Republic on Saturday.

Goals from Chiwendu Ihezuo and Courtney Dike ensured the Falconets got a 2-1 win against the Asians in their second group game at the 2014 Fifa U20 Women’s World Cup in Canada.

In his post-match reaction, Dedevbo expressed excitement at his team’s resilience and victory against the Koreans stressing that the win will motivate his girls to defeating England in their final group game. "I feel very happy with this victory – after our first game, we sat down and went back to the drawing board – even the players were disappointed with the first match’s result,” Dedevbo told Goal.
"We had our strategies against Korea – they play the kind of football we play – they hold the ball and knocking the ball around – we knew it will be difficult if we play their type of football.
"We decide to play a bit with ball and fast counter– throwing the ball forward because their defence will be flat– a bit of fast football,” he said.
However, the former Flamingoes coach said the victory against Korea Republic will lift his maidens’ morals in their last group C game against the England.
"With a kind of victory like this –because we have played well together in training and this has given the team much confidence to approach the game against England,” he concluded.
Nigeria will take on the final Group C opponents, Three Lions of England on August 14, at the Edmonton Stadium, Canada.
