It’s been a year since Wizkid departed from the record label that birthed him and as such we take a look at the 5 of the biggest moves the former EMEartiste has made as part of his 25th birthday celebration.
1. Making peace with Davido
It almost looked as if the battle between Wizkid and Davido had something to do with his record label EME. Since Wizkid left EME he has been spotted severally with his frenemy Davido.
The two have not only clubbed together, they have made money together and even earlier today Davido wished Wizkid a happy birthday.
2. Drake
Hottest hip-hop property on the planet Drake had enough time on his hands to lay few words on one of the most successful songs off Wizkid’s second studio album Ojuelegba.
Since the song dropped last weekend, Wizkid has been another person and that has sealed his status as arguably the biggest artiste in Nigeria and Africa.
Hottest UK hip-hop and grime artiste Skepta also was on the track.
3. Disturbing London
Disturbing London, a UK based management outfit finally came to prominence after EME left Wizkid’s life.
The 25 year old’s international status has grown bigger ever since
and has been spotted in the studio with Canadian singer Justin Beiber,
recording three songs with Chris Brown, linking up with Skepta and the
most recentDrake jumping on his track.Wizkid also claimed he worked with Rihanna while in Los Angeles sometime ago, although there’s no proof of that. He has also worked with rapper Wale severally before other Nigerian artistes were able to do so. Moves.
4. Leaving MTN for Glo
One of the major moves that characterized the past 365 days for Wizkid is his departure from Nigeria’s biggest telecommunication company MTN Nigeria. A move that could backfire when looked at from another angle.
The singer demanded more money on his contract but MTN wouldn’t pay but someone else would because —- Wizzy.
Wizkid has since left MTN for Glo and if his utterance are to be taken seriously, Glo are paying him twice as much as MTN paid him. Words on the street say he got paid N200million.
5. Floating Starboy
The jury is still out on how successful Starboy has been since
Wizkid floated it but it remains one of the biggest move the singer has
made in his career and in the past year.
While Wizkid launched the record label while he was AWOL from EME,
the company is now independent and has several producers and an artiste
signed. He’s also changed his manager to Sunday Are, an industry
veteran. We give Wizkid another 2 years for us to see what he plans to do with EME
