The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued warnings about some products which are supposedly able to cure Ebola.
The FDA warning comes after Nigeria's Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu announced that 8 Ebola patients would receive a new experimental treatment called Nanosilver.
The drug was said to have been provided to the country's government by a Nigerian in diaspora.
According to Reuters:
"The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers nano-silver a pesticide. Manufacturers of products that contain it must register them with the agency."
"Nano-silver is also sometimes sold online as a dietary supplement even though Danish researchers found in a recent study that nano-silver can penetrate and damage cells."
However, the FDA did not specify any product in its warning and could not provide any information relating to the drug being offered in Nigeria.
