Man arrested for abducting traffic warden in Ogun

Ogun State Police Command has arrested a young man, Tosin Owolola, 27, for abducting a traffic warden at Iyana Mortuary Abeokuta Ogun State on Saturday, August 16.

This is contained in a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi.

The incident occurred when the traffic warden was at his point in Abeokuta and flagged down the man driving his Mazda car with number plate BDG 24 CY against the traffic at Iyana Mortuary, but the suspect hit the traffic warden and he(warden)fell on the bonnet of the car.

He said, “The suspect kept on driving for a distance, more than 4km,with the traffic warden on his bonnet, shouting on top of his voice that ‘I will kill you’.

“It took the efforts of the members of the public and other police men on patrol, who were called, to rescue the traffic warden from the man in the Kemta Idi Aba jungle, where he drove into.”

The suspect, who was heavily drunk, is a technician with ordinary national diploma in Business Studies from the Lagos State Polytechnic, and hails from Imo, Abeokuta, in Abeokuta South Local Government of Ogun State.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikemefuna Okoye, has directed thorough investigation into the matter and that the suspect be subjected to some medical examinations before he would be charged to court to face the full wrath of the law, as such will serve as deterrent to others who are fond of harassing and assaulting security agents on duty.

He warned that such acts will no longer be tolerated.
