Death Toll Exceeds 3000 - WHO

The death toll for the current Ebola outbreak, the deadliest yet, has now passed 3000, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

This was revealed by the body as part of new data received about the status of the outbreak up to September 23.

The new data shows that the number of deceased victims has risen to at least 3,091 out of 6,574 probable, suspected and confirmed cases, the WHO said on Friday, September 26.

Liberia has been the worst hit with 1,830 deaths, about three times more than in Guinea or Sierra Leone, countries which have also been badly affected.

The disease has however been contained in Nigeria and Senegal with neither having any new cases of the disease in the last few weeks.
