Carl Ikeme saves Nigeria’s blushes in Tanzania as Eagles ground goalless draw in African Cup of nations qualifiers

The Super Eagles of Nigeria were flat all afternoon here at a packed Dar es Salaam national stadium in Tanzania and should count themselves lucky for emerging from this game with a share of the spoils.

However, it was the imposing Carl Ikeme–who was making his national team debut at the ripe age of 29–who saved Nigeria’s blushes; parrying here, tipping over the bar there and snuffing out one Tanzanian goal opportunity after another.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers goalie was called into action only minutes into the game and was there to ensure Nigeria ran away from Tanzania with their dignity intact, all through the 2nd period.

Ahmed Musa ran into blind alleys all afternoon, Emmanuel Emenike wouldn’t play with the rest of the team and Lukman Haruna was hauled out by coach Sunday Oliseh before the 1st half whistle went off. Such was his listless display.

The Eagles didn’t play as a team and the lack of cohesion was glaring from miles away; all game.

On the evidence of this display, new gaffer Sunday Oliseh sure has his work cut out.

0-0 the final score.
