'The Flash' Casting News, Update: 'Candyman' Star Joins Season 2 to Give Voice to Zoom
The highly-anticipated second season of The CW's hit superhero drama TV series "The Flash" has added yet another actor into its cast member's list.
The report from Variety.com said that the "Candyman" star Tony Todd is joining the show but won't be appearing physically as he is tapped to be the voice of DC Comics and Season 2's main villain, Zoom.
The sinister speedster's identity is still being kept under wraps as well as the actor who will take on the role.
"Part of the mystery of the season is who or what is underneath the Zoom outfit, and so we wanted to do something like James Earl Jones as Darth Vader — this iconic voice coming out of this mask," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Variety.
Last year, fans may have thought of the Reverse-Flash/Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh) as a "speed warrior." This year, however, viewers will get to see Zoom as someone like a "speed demon," and no one does the part of voicing the character better than Tony Todd, the EP went on to say.
Speaking further about the upcoming big bad, Kreisberg likened Zoom's appearance to that of Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man. He revealed that the speedster's outfit is "much more organic" as compared to the Reverse-Flash suit which comes out from his ring.
"In a way, it's hard to tell if it is a suit or alive… There's no skin showing, for all you know there's a robot underneath, or dark energy," he teased while adding that it would probably take a long time for fans to figure out "who's under the mask."
As for the villain's motivation to get into the other side, Kreisberg explained that just like what the Season 1's Reverse-Flash main objective which is to "go back home," Zoom's personal goal in this season is quite "simple and easy to understand, and very primal."
And just like what Wells/Thawne did in the previous season, Zoom wouldn't give an ounce of care as to "who gets hurt or what gets destroyed" as long as he achieved his goal.
"The Flash" Season 2 premieres Tuesday, October 6 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
