Season 2 of The Flash will be different to the first, we all know this by now. To be honest, how could it not be? What with the vanquishing of the Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) and the increasing regularity of the crossovers between Barry Allen's world and that of his fellow vigilante-superhero, Oliver Queen, the general landscape of Central City is likely to have developed somewhat by the time we return next month. Flash this year. Danielle Panabaker, who plays Dr. Caitlin Snow, is delighted at the prospect of such developments. Caitlin, who had a rather turbulent season finale in May, finally got married to Ronnie, half of the mutated character Firestorm (Robbie Amell) after a long season of emotional turmoil.
Speaking to Zap2it, Panabaker explained how much she is enjoying her character's storyline, and that she can't wait for Season 2 to get underway: “I feel so grateful to our writers,” she told them. “They’ve given me so much meaty material to work with. I mean, everything that went on with Ronnie: At first, we thought he was dead, then he was back but he wasn’t himself … then he was really back, and he left her again."
It is playing a role like Dr. Caitlin Snow that has really proved to Panabaker that she is now ready for mature adult parts, having previously held predominantly child acting roles. “It’s just a nice opportunity to really grow up, to get to play a doctor on TV,” she reasons.
She now finds herself in a very fascinating position as an actress, knowing that Caitlin will eventually transform into Killer Frost, just like in the comic books. Panabaker promised that she is bracing herself for this potential change, and she proceeded to praise the special-effects team for everything that they have achieved so far in The Flash. “Ten years ago, when I first started, I don’t think something like this would be possible.
To be able to turn out this level of work on a regular basis is really quite impressive.” Caitlin and the others look set for just as demanding a season as the first - both emotionally and physically - with the prospect of big bad Zoom arriving in Central City and taking over Reverse Flash's mantle.
